We are currently looking for a Manager, External Affairs to join our team in Washington, D.C. and play an active role in the biggest transformation in the history of our company. In this role, you will serve as an integral member of PMI’s External Affairs team, where you will help develop, manage and execute our public policy agenda, with an emphasis on international affairs. In addition, you will advise management and other cross-functional teams concerning the policy implications of current events in the U.S. This role will report to the Director, External Affairs, and work as part of a team to engage U.S. stakeholders, and coordinate with internal business functions around the world to design and implement strategies that advance the company’s international policy agenda. Key Activities: • Under the direction of the Washington team, you will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to support global advocacy and policy objectives. • Engage Capitol Hill, the Administration and key domestic and international partners, as directed and help manage participation in membership organizations • Advise PMI leadership on policy risks and opportunities and develop and implement strategies accordingly. Collaborate with the External Affairs team to develop written content, such as policy position papers and legislative summaries. • Provide superior support for Senior Leaders across the company to build relationships with key government officials, trade groups and other key industry partners. • Develop superior government relations materials, including draft letters, submissions and leave-behinds. Desired Profile: • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience. • Proven experience working within government, think tanks, public interest groups and/or manufacturing and consumer goods industry. • International experience, particularly in Congress or with international organizations. • Bipartisan relationships or ability to work across the political spectrum is a requisite. • Excellent personal, political, analytical and communications skills and high attention to detail. • Strong writing capabilities. • Experience working on issues related to foreign affairs, health care, and/or agriculture policy. • Experience successfully working with a team. • Ability to lead and evaluate issues independently and in a fast-paced, ambitious environment.
