Your ‘day to day’ As the Head of Material Research you will conceive, define, and implement company-wide Material Research strategy in close partnership with Product. You will lead the Material Research team to conceive and conduct research projects with company-wide scope in the field of material science. More specifically, you will: • Develop mid and long term Material Research strategy to ensure full alignment with functional strategy and its effective deployment within the organizational unit managed. Set Material Research objectives and collaborate with other organizational units and key stakeholders to ensure the goals are aligned and the targets are achieved. • Direct and lead the scientific and technical professionals to conduct research projects in material science for the critical improvement areas of existing products platforms and the strategic new material needs for the future products, with special focuses on technical materials, encapsulation materials, hosting materials, sustainable materials, and others as business required. • Establish close collaboration with Product Development and other internal stakeholders to ensure the research projects in material science are conceived and defined based upon the critical development needs for the existing and new platforms. Build and enhance the research capabilities in the focused areas of material science. • Identify, establish, and manage collaborative research partnerships with the leading universities, research institutes, and external experts in the areas of interest, wherever expertise does not exist internally. • Build organizational capability in Material Research by providing guidance, coaching, and mentoring to all direct and functional reports and partner with P&C to recruit new scientific/technical talents as needed. • Ensure adequate level of quality, data traceability, documentation, and knowledge management guidelines are followed for material science research projects. Ensure new inventions in Material Research are captured in a timely manner to enhance PMI's competitive advantages. • Provide guidance and support in the areas of material science expertise for assessments of new materials and technologies, patent assessments and patent oppositions / defenses, and other business needs and business decisions as required. Who we’re looking for • University degree in Material Sciences, Engineering or equivalent. Ph.D. is an asset • Substantial experience in an R&D environment, leading teams in technical research and development in the field of material science • Proven record of new material developed and used in consumer good • Sound expertise in popularizing technical and scientific knowledge • Confirmed leadership skills • Demonstrated ability to network, engage, seize opportunities, communicate, present and influence credibility at all levels of the organization, as well as to build effective project teams and foster a strong collaborative culture internally and with suppliers • Fluent in English (verbal and written) What we offer Our success depends on the men and women who come to work every single day with a sense of purpose and an appetite for progress.
