Your ‘day to day’ As a Manager Substrate Technology, you'll be accountable for leading a group of experienced scientists to achieve departmental objectives towards the development of substrates for RRPs (Reduced-Risk Products) and beyond nicotine products. You and your team will lead the exploration, characterization, and development of new substrates, ensuring focus and fast transition from innovation concepts to development. In our project-based organization you will work closely with other departments in the Product, Operations, and Life-Science functions to deliver technical solutions for a portfolio of sophisticated projects, stretching from innovation to development and commercialization. More specifically, you'll • Direct a group of scientists in executing sophisticated scientific research and development activities in a project-based organization and collaborate closely with internal and external customers and partners • Lead the definition and implementation of departmental strategies and development plan to drive quality, cost-effectiveness, speed, and compliance in our development processes • Ensure the continuous building of scientific product understanding to establish requirements based on risk assessment and performance, safety, and quality criteria • Ensure the timely release of design documents and specifications and that supporting data is generated, consolidated, and reviewed in line with scientific standard methodologies to maintain integrity and traceability in view of regulatory submission activities • Build an innovative culture to adapt and develop new products and processes. Keep abreast of consumer insights and industrial developments and propose new applications and procedures when necessary. • Provide recommendations for department related issues and interact with senior management during decision-making processes • Lead, staff and develop a motivated, skilled, and optimally resourced team to ensure that performance levels and professional development achieve or exceed business objectives not only for today, but also for the future • Maximize service quality through continuous improvement of processes and ensure adherence to PMI Standards and to regulatory compliance requirements for substrate formulations Who we're looking for • University degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Food Technology, or equivalent • 10+ years of relevant development experience within tobacco, food, or pharmaceutical industry • Previous experience in leading a scientific team in a line management or project organization setup with validated ability to generate results and align organizational resources to accomplish strategic objectives • Excellent interpersonal communication, organizational and leadership skills; ability to work independently and in a team • Ability to manage ambiguity and agility in problem solving • Ability to communicate effectively and express sophisticated concepts at all levels of the organization, encourage direct and open discussions • Proficient, well written and spoken English is vital, French is an asset What we offer Our success depends on the men and women who come to work every single day with a sense of purpose and an appetite for progress.
