Be a part of a revolutionary change Be a part of a ground-breaking change! At PMI, we’ve chosen to do something incredible. We’re totally redefining our business, and building our future on smoke-free products with the power to improve the lives of a billion smokers worldwide. With huge change, comes huge opportunity. So, wherever you join us, you’ll enjoy the freedom to dream up and deliver better, brighter solutions and the space to move your career forward in endlessly new directions. PMI’s journey to a smoke-free future is fuelled by technology. The total transformation we’re going through means that there are unique IT projects here to match all levels of skills and ambitions – from pace-setting global pilot projects to vital local updates. Whether you want to pursue a personal passion or build an international career, there’s space here to develop in any number of directions. To join us in IT you’ll need to be driven and equally happy whether you’re taking the strategic view or diving deep into processes. We'll make sure you're set up to succeed whatever your project is, our culture is agile and collaborative, and we genuinely believe our people are some of the best you’ll ever work with. The Enterprise Analytics and Data (EAD) team is responsible for redefining Philip Morris into a company where decision-making process is driven by data. As part of this team, we are looking for a Senior Ontologist who is knowledge builder and can build and deliver extraordinary, intuitive, and comprehensive taxonomy and ontology models to create Enterprise Knowledge Graphs for functions across PMI. You will work closely with our business architect and a core team of enterprise data architects to ensure the ontologies can be used to deliver knowledge-based solutions to enable content discoverability and insights generation for our internal partners. In this role, you will directly impact the customer experience as well as the company’s product knowledge foundation. This is part of the broader initiative to support the existing Data Architecture Practice with a canonical view of the overall organizational data landscape. The vision of the Ontology Product Knowledge Team is to create a linked data ecosystem via RDF triples (semantic web) to provide a standardized, semantically rich, easily discoverable, extensible, and universally applicable body of knowledge across functions such as Life Sciences, Product, Operations and Finance that can be consistently applied across our partner landscape. We aim to make knowledge graphs compelling, easy to use, and feature rich via the ontologies that you will build and deliver. Our work to build extensive knowledge graphs allows us to semantically understand how our data is linked at a semantic and contextual level. We are striving to make these knowledge discovery experiences intuitive and business friendly. A key result of this role will also be the creation/prescription of what will be foundational entities (as part of a canonical data model) to be used across the organization as a modular, plug and play offering. Additionally, you serve as a liaison among business partners, technical resources, and project stakeholders. This is truly an exceptional opportunity to accelerate your career and work alongside a wide cross-section of business and IT leaders within the organization. To succeed, you will need a healthy mix of critical thinking, deep hands-on experience of modern data architecture practices deployed on the cloud and a sound understanding of the various standard methodologies and current trends in the data architecture domain. The preferred candidate is ideally a DAMA certified architect who can work closely with a number of Business and IT partner teams in a collaborative manner to ensure the proposed data architecture meets the underlying needs of the wider partner landscape. The wider EAD Data Management Team and EAD Business Intelligence & Analytics Teams will own the partner pack closely followed by the data engineers who will rely on your expertise to ensure they are building the appropriate physical models in line your Ontologies. The day-to-day responsibilities are to be carried out against the primary backdrop of both global and local transactional and ERP systems with a cloud-based sophisticated analytics platform also part of this ecosystem. These are supported by state-of-the-art technologies (AWS, Wherescape, Snowflake, AWS Sagemaker, EMR) and methodologies (Data Vault 2.0, SAFe, Scrum) enabling key transformation initiatives. Your ‘day to day’ • Develop logical, semantically rich, and extensible data models for PMI’s expansive data catalog. • Ensure our ontologies provide comprehensive sub-domain coverage that are available for machine ingestion and inference. • Research enterprise wide understanding of PMI data landscape across functions and products to develop scalable data models that solve partner problems and enhance knowledge discoverability. • Expand existing data retrieval techniques by applying our extensive data catalog and query languages. • Analyse data discovery behaviours to make data-driven decisions on optimizing our knowledge graph data models globally. • Contribute to the development of new tool features and processes for the Ontology team. • Drive alignment to ontology modelling and technology standard methodologies and principles within our organization and across PMI. • Coordinate multi-functional projects with a broad range of technical and non-technical teams Functional Competency: • Excellent partner leadership skills with the ability to translate technical complexities into business-friendly language using both conceptual and logical thinking. • Strategic ability to relate the current technology and application landscape to the evolving business needs and identify the data architecture gaps • Experience of working with broader architecture community (EA, SA, AA) • Understanding of modern data architectures, data extract mechanisms, functional decomposition and business rules engines. • Experience with SCRUM methodology and/or following an agile approach • Self-starter with strong analytical and problem-solving skills from a business perspective. • Good interpersonal, leadership, organizational and project management skills • Enthusiast and Advocate for Ontologies and Knowledge Graphs across the organization • Experience with SAFe & Knowledge of about BI and Big DATA ecosystems (S3, Scala, Spark) • Knowledge of Snowflake, WhereScape and PowerDesigner • Experience of working within a large, complex and geographically dispersed Program.
