Your Day to Day As Legal Counsel you will work with affiliate, regional and global Legal & Compliance teams and PM South Africa business to provide quality, business-centric and timely legal analysis, advice, representation, negotiation and documentation in a wide variety of PM South Africa business activities and initiatives to enable PMI’s Smoke Free Future vision in South Africa and neighbouring countries coherently with relevant laws and regulations and PMI positions. You will also support the Senior Counsel to implement departmental practices and objectives in South Africa and neighbouring markets. Our team seeks to be highly customer and consumer centric, and we are looking for outstanding individuals who enjoy working on large, complex and multi-dimensional problems, to help us design and deliver the next phase of our technology operational model. We work in a highly regulated environment across many geographies with a fast-paced business environment which is incredibly interesting to work in. Key Responsibilities - Provide timely legal analysis, advice on marketing and sales, product regulation, commercial, corporate, litigation, compliance and representation, negotiation and documentation in a wide variety of Philip Morris South Africa business initiatives and other matters in accordance with the intentions of business and legal management and company policies. Assists Senior Counsel in implementation departmental plans and objectives within PMI’s business in South Africa. - Partners with global subject matter authorities, regional legal teams, the Senior Counsel and business colleagues to create proactive strategies designed to avoid or minimize exposure to legal liability. - Helps business colleagues understand the risks and consequences of the given situation. Effectively communicates the consequences and develops alternatives to lead identified risks. - In coordination with External Affairs and with the supervision of the Senior Counsel, represents the company’s position before government agencies regarding the noted areas of law and support PMI’s harm reduction advocacy. - Stays current with legal developments, standard methodologies and benchmarks in the noted areas of law and assists business colleagues in implementing policies and procedures in response thereto. Provide trainings on relevant legal issues, as needed. - Participate in project teams, ensuring that their decisions and recommendations guard the legal interests of the affiliate and PMI and implement decisions to achieve objectives on a timely basis - Drafts key documents, presents clear recommendations and ensures legal compliance as it relates to the noted areas of law. Maintains corporate secretarial responsibilities of a private company. Who we’re looking for - BA (LLB) or B.
