Your ‘day to day’: As External Laboratory Lead you will be part of Decentralized Lab Department for Philip Morris Manufacturing & Technology Bologna and will be reporting to the Manager Decentralized Labs. The position will be based in Bologna, Italy. In your role you will be responsible for the execution of externalized activities from planning to reporting, in very close collaboration with project team/requestors, the ‘transactional support team’, and the External laboratories. You will also lead the review of the external laboratories used by PMI, to ensure that relevant and appropriate quality of results is reported. You will plan, coordinate and execute communication with key partners, of the analytical review from the External Labs Finally you will also work with PMI Scientists to review External Lab technical methods performance. Specific responsibilities include: • Lead the operational activities according to business calendar, between PMI Product and the External laboratories. Liaise with External Lab Manager, 'transactional support team', requestors and External labs, to execute expected testing in time and quality. • Drive the review of PMI control monitor samples reported from the external laboratory partners and confirm if reports provided are analytically sound. Communicate the monitoring test result review to the external laboratory partners from the monthly monitor review and from the various Inter Lab Correlation (ICT) schemes • Participate in the Quality Review Meetings with the external laboratories as PMI representative for the adherence to analytical performance • Reference person for contact between PMI and the External Laboratories related to testing and reporting queries on results • Monitor the daily/weekly performance of external lab and ensure adherence of performance. Work with the PMI scientists to assist in technical reviews of the External Labs test methods • Carry out all of the activities ensuring that PMI Compliance Policies, standards, and laws relating to these activities are fully respected, integrated and understood by stakeholders, and implement adequate processes to ensure the protection of information of a confidential nature. Requirements & Skills: • Master’s Degree in Chemistry or Life Sciences, Quality or equivalent • Meaningful experience (min. 2-5 years) in testing laboratories within tobacco, food or pharmaceutical industry • Proven knowledge about laboratory quality systems • Experience with service laboratories or CROs, is an advantage • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with various cross-functional partners • Fluent in English • Communication, influencing and management skills • Excellent ability to communicate and collaboration with multiple stakeholders. Interpersonal skills with all levels of employees. Strong problem solving skills and collaboration culture.
