Your ‘day to day’ Scientific and medical publishing is a vital part of the Philip Morris International (PMI) Life Sciences Strategy and one of the most critical elements in establishing PMI as a leader in science and innovation. As a Scientific Editor, you will be responsible for managing the Manuscript Review Process to ensure that relevant/high-quality scientific publications are produced and to protect PMI’s intellectual property. You will also advise scientists on best practices in scientific writing, including journal selection and communication with editors, be accountable for developing and maintaining multiple repositories of scientific publications, providing training, and working cross-functionally for litigation, regulatory, and engagement activities. More specifically, you'll • Perform editorial review of regulatory submissions to health authorities to ensure consistency in language, flow of narrative, and overall quality as well as be responsible for editorial/scientific review of PMI publications—including manuscripts, abstracts, posters, presentations, and web content—to ensure quality. Provide guidance on content for PMI’s Publishing Strategy. • Improve and refine the internal publication review process and platform to better align with customer and organizational requirements as well as adapt to evolving/increasing strategic needs. • Participate in the assessment of third-party scientific literature in support of litigation, regulatory, and engagement activities to minimize the risk of adverse impact on the company’s scientific reputation. • Contribute to the development/maintenance of structured and searchable third-party publications repositories. • Translate publishing strategies into services by advising authors on preparing and submitting publications and selecting journals. Analyze journal feedbacks to inform future manuscript development. Validate journals and conferences. Verify journals that solicit contributions or editorial board membership from PMI scientists. Who we’re looking for • PhD in Life Sciences (specialization in clinical sciences, toxicology, or biochemistry preferred) and editorial certification (e.g., ELS or CPE). • Broad scientific knowledge and demonstrated experience in editorial review and publication management. Familiarity with the scientific peer-review process. Experience with regulatory submissions (particularly US FDA submissions) is desirable. • Ability to proactively plan and prioritize. Sound interpersonal, collaboration, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Action- and detail-oriented, flexible, fast learner and entrepreneurial in nature. • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and EndNote. Prior experience working with publication management software is an advantage. • Proficiency in spoken and written English is a must.
