The Department Our team is part of the wider IT Consumer & Commercial (ITC&C) function responsible for designing, building, running and improving business solutions and services globally. The technologies we are interested in range from omnichannel, commerce, digital marketing, social media and trade, both within a B2C and B2B context – all of our solutions are consumer-facing and are the real growth engine and future of our organization. The Operations & Platform Services (O&PS) department is responsible for the run and sustain of business solutions as well as the design, build and run of all core platform technologies that underpin all technology services. We are fully accountable for the core cloud infrastructure, production operations, platform management, delivery tooling, environments, site reliability, service delivery, operational readiness and continuous improvement of our landscape. In 2019 we joined forces with Infosys to help us deliver L1 24x7x365 services and L2 application support and we continue to enjoy a great relationship with Infosys who help us run things while we focus on automation, project delivery and bringing cool new technology to help solve business problems. Our customers are two-fold as we help delivery teams to accelerate by providing stable technology enablement solutions and support our affiliates who consume the technology we centrally deliver. In total, we serve around eighty-nine affiliates worldwide who use a mixture of B2C and B2B technology and enable delivery teams in Consumer, Commercial, IoT and Global Communications. It’s a very busy department but we luckily get involved in the most interesting projects with lots of innovative technology. We’re customer-obsessed to the core and everything we build or run or service, we put everything into making it simple, easy-to-use and efficient. We’re a very international team and currently spread across seven cities worldwide: Lausanne is our head office and operating centre, London is our main operational hub, Lisbon is our primary engineering centre, and we have people in Jakarta, Manila, Buenos Aires and Krakow. Our colleagues in Infosys work out of the delivery centres in Hyderabad and Mohali and our other technology delivery vendors are based predominantly in Continental Europe. Role Summary The Solution Architect, Site Reliability is responsible for defining, delivering, and embedding secure, stable, and scalable operational technology across our global application and infrastructure ecosystems. Partnering closely with our product delivery, service operations, engineering and governance teams, the Solution Architect, Site Reliability will be the senior technical authority for all Cloud, Infrastructure, Security Operations, Service Automation and Delivery Engineering platforms enabling our engineering teams to deliver at pace. As part of a small but highly visible team, the Solution Architect, Site Reliability will be the most senior technologist within the group and be accountable for delivering high-level designs, working with team members on engineering activity and will deliver a cohesive framework for the delivery of cutting-edge operational solutions and services. The Solution Architect, Site Reliability is responsible for the design of the TechOps stack that all our application and services are built on top of. The stack comprises service, alerting, monitoring, CI/CD, splashing, RPA, cloud infrastructure and status management. Our vision is to get to a self-service platform that our development community can leverage to automatically provision and ensure we have end-to-end automation for all our platform. The platform will also serve our customers who also need to leverage services and technology from our group. The Role Responsibilities • Defining, driving, and delivering the vision for the operational layer of the Digital Platform for technology, process, and engineers • Supporting, as part of a wider architecture community, the delivery of a cohesive ecosystem of business products and technologies that are operationally compliant and robust • Senior Technical Design Authority for all operational layer technologies and processes • Integration of all our tooling, cloud platforms and processes to converge to a single and consistent customer experience • Relentless in the pursuit of zero-defect and ensuring our platform and service is robust and predictable • Building an architectural capability across all delivery teams in Operations & Platform Services • Driving continuous improvement through structured Lean Sigma methodologies • Delivering technology solutions and assurance activity through applied agile methodologies • Driving standards and practices, improving, and innovating to stay ahead of the curve • Active and keen participant in the overall design and architecture of the digital platform The Person Criteria • An expert-level understanding of cloud-based technology and the automation of these platforms, especially AWS and Salesforce although experience of other SaaS, IaaS and PaaS products is a plus • Intimately familiar with observability practices and has implemented monitoring, alerting, availability and resilience across a global technology stack • Experience of working with computing at scale using multiple cloud vendors • In-depth knowledge of infrastructure and web technologies in a cloud environment, preferably B2C • Software development background with demonstrable ‘DevSecOps’ experience, must have come from a coding background that also has systems administration and infrastructure experience • Strong infrastructure and cloud technology background coupled with automation experience • Experience of automation of core technology and process to deliver a streamlined environment • Experience working within an Agile environment and delivering faster at a higher quality level • Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and bring engineers, managers, and partners on a journey of improvement • A servant leader approach that has a demonstrate track record in significantly influencing the improvement of high-performance engineering teams • A strong and patient approach to vendor management Finally, we can only accept candidates who have the existing right to work in the UK.
