Your ‘day to day’ The Lead, Québec & Atlantic Government Relations is responsible for two distinct sets of accountabilities. First, the management of RBH’s relationships with the Quebec government and stakeholders at the provincial level within this commercial region, including elected officials, public servants, political staff, and third-party organizations. Second, the management of RBH’s relationships with Atlantic Provincial governments and stakeholders at the provincial levels within this commercial region, including elected officials, public servants, political staff, and third-party organizations. Major accountabilities • Acts as the government contact for Rothmans, Benson & Hedges (RBH) within Québec & Atlantic Canada to advance the strategic positioning of the company and its public affairs strategy. • Functions as a spokesperson with regional politicians, civil servants, political staff, and key stakeholders, as delegated by the Manager, National Government/Regulatory Affairs & Sustainability. • Meets with government officials to discuss issues/policies that relate to or will impact RBH’s business in both the near and long term. • Develops and implements action plans for specified corporate or commercial objectives for direct advocacy with government officials and stakeholders. • Coaches and prepares Managing Director & Senior RBH executives for political interactions as needed, including thorough and detailed briefings prior to official meetings. • Proactively works with RBH leaders to identify politically relevant RBH developments in innovation, science, technology, and the associated regulatory environment to advance the company’s strategy to #UnsmokeCanada by 2035 in Quebec & Atlantic Canada. • Monitor relevant policy, legislation, and program developments across Québec & Atlantic Canada, and provide advice to the Manager, National Government/Regulatory Affairs & Sustainability on RBH’s response to new developments. • Conducts research and analysis in support of advocacy activities and the development of public policy to support RBH’s business objectives. Who we’re looking for • Undergraduate degree in political science, social sciences, public relations/communications, or a related field as required. • Eligible to register as a lobbyist with the Québec & all Atlantic Provincial governments. • Excellent language skills, both written and oral, in English and French (bilingual required). • Minimum 7+ years in government and/or public affairs role. • Experience in provincial politics is an asset. • Corporate experience, preferably in a publicly-trade international company, is required. • Ability to work in a non-partisan manner and establish/maintain credibility and access across competing party lines. • Demonstrated results in advocating for regulatory or fiscal reform at the provincial level. • Established senior-level political contacts across multiple political parties and demonstrated ability to expand network. • Detailed understanding of Canadian & Quebec political system and current regional political dynamics.
