Sampoerna and INOTEK Foundation Holds #BangkitWirausaha MSME Festival to Improve MSMEs’ Competitiveness

The MSME Festival invites strategic partners from the Ministries and the related Regional Governments to support more than 500 MSME Participants

Jakarta, 18 August 2021 – Indonesian Technology Innovation Foundation (INOTEK) together with PT HM Sampoerna Tbk. (Sampoerna) commemorated the National MSME Day and the Independence Day of Indonesia by holding “#BangkitWirausaha MSME Festival” on 18-22 August 2021. The MSME Festival is supported by the Ministry of Trade, Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs, National Standardization Agency of Indonesia, Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, and Karawang Regency Government, with over 500 participating MSMEs.

Various educational activities, business talk shows, MSME promotion, and Indonesia exploration are presented in the #BangkitWirausaha MSME Festival to motivate and provide knowledge to MSMES so that they can increase their competitiveness and recover during the pandemic. This festival introduces the taste and creative products from the MSMEs under the guidance of INOTEK and Sampoerna and is hoped to help optimize transactions to drive the economy.

The #BangkitWirausaha MSME Festival was officially opened by the Deputy Minister of Trade Jerry Sambuaga who said in his statement, “MSMEs contribute over 60% to Indonesia’s GDP and is the backbone of our economy. I believe that this kind of assistance, as implemented by Sampoerna and INOTEK in this MSME Festival, is appropriate and I hope that the support given to MSMEs is not only to help them survive the pandemic, but also for them to achieve success in the domestic and even international market.”

Also attending the virtual opening ceremony were the INOTEK Board of Directors Chairman Indra Uno; Sampoerna Head of External Affairs Ishak Danuningrat; DKI Jakarta Deputy Governor Riza Patria; and Karawang Regent Cellica Nurrachadiana on Wednesday (08/18).

“As business incubator that provides support to MSMEs, INOTEK is committed to keep providing support and encouraging the MSMES to become competitive through down-streaming the products of the MSMEs under our guidance as the driver of the economic wheels by holding the #BangkitWirausaha MSME Festival with 50 MSME participants in order to enable them to market their main products,” said Indra Uno.

Sampoerna Head of External Affairs Ishak Danuningrat said, “Through the sustainability program Sampoerna Untuk Indonesia, we are committed to supporting the growth of MSMEs together with the stakeholders and strategic partners to support the growth of MSMES such as through Build Back National Economy Better (BBNEB), especially to face the challenges amidst the COVID-19 pandemic."

MSMEs have an important role in manpower absorption in this sector. However, the COVID-19 pandemic presented challenges for the sustainability of MSMEs that require them to pivot, and therefore, a MSME support program with significant impact is required so that the MSMES are able to survive and recover at this time.

Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Riza Patria said, “The #BangkitWirausaha MSME Festival provides positive energy for MSMEs to recover and improve their competitiveness. We would like to thank INOTEK and Sampoerna that have attempted to support the government to create strong and tenacious MSMEs to recover together at this challenging time.”

The government fully supports holding the #BangkitWirausaha MSME Festival in carrying out the mission to recover the National economy. Because of the current restriction, the #BangkitWirausaha MSME Festival via virtual space is a real action to improve motivation and optimism for MSMEs to recover as stated by the Karawang Regent Cellica Nurrachadiana.

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno also voiced his support and said, “This festival is a turning point for MSMEs to keep moving forward, fight, and continue the dream of the freedom fighters, because MSMEs are the foundation of the revival and the core of Indonesian economy.”

The #BangkitWirausaha MSME Festival is part of the Build Back National Economy Better (BBNEB) Program, a collaborative program by INOTEK and Sampoerna untuk Indonesia for the purpose of supporting the entrepreneurs and MSMEs as the foundation of the nation’s economy that has been affected by COVID-19 pandemic. The BBNEB program is designed to support the people’s economic recovery by providing assistance for MSMEs to adapt amidst the limitations enforced by the social restrictions.

In the implementation of the BBNEB Program, INOTEK and Sampoerna have collaborated with several strategic partners, such as Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs, Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, National Standardization Agency of Indonesia, DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, and Karawang Regency Government. BBNEB program has provided assistance for more than 500 MSMEs with the focus on commercializing the products to improve the welfare and standard of living for the MSMEs. In the future, this program will collaborate with other parties such as Ministry of Trade and Ministry of Manpower to improve the scale of the training as well as to reach more MSMEs throughout Indonesia.
