Energy Efficiency and Emission Reduction
Sampoerna is committed to strengthening its mitigation efforts and resilience on climate change impact, including reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, by increasing efficiency and reducing energy usage.
We are gradually shifting to sustainable energy sources and striving to improve energy efficiency across all our sites. With that, we have reduced our carbon emissions through many initiatives and the use of solar panels in our manufacturing facilities.
In line with PMI’s commitment, Sampoerna has prepared and implemented Carbon Management Plan 2021-2025 for each factory which aims to reduce GHG emissions from the manufacturing process. The Carbon Management Plan contains annual emission reduction targets whose achievements are checked.
Water Management
Sampoerna is committed to manage our water as a common resource in the area, within our operation. Through wastewater management we ensure that the quality of wastewater meets applicable standard.
We are also conscious of our water use and promote water recycling, watershed conservation, and sustainable water management in collaboration with stakeholders.
Waste Management
Sampoerna continues efforts in waste management, are including preventing, reducing, reusing and/or recycling waste in our operations and value chain.
The Company target is to reduce its operational related waste, encourage recycle and responsible waste disposal. The Company’s short-term target is to reduce to almost zero, operational related waste send to landfills. By the end of 2022 the Company has managed to reduce 99 percent of its non-hazardous waste from being sent to landfills.
In addition, Sampoerna supports the government in implementing waste management in accordance with the applicable rules and regulations.
We also understand that cigarette butt waste can pollute the environment due to littering. Therefore, we are building awareness among adult consumers to maintain a clean environment.
The educational programs and campaigns that we have carried out include Leave No Trace, Small Trash Matter (Kecil-Kecil Lama-Lama Jadi Bukti), Clean Up Day (#SayaAjaBisa), and other activities with stakeholders.
