Welcome to Philip Morris International’s (PMI) affiliates in Poland. We are the leading tobacco company in the country, manufacturing three of the 10 best-selling cigarette brands in Poland. However, we have decided to be far more than a cigarette company. We’re building PMI’s future on smoke-free products, such as IQOS, which are a much better choice than continued cigarette smoking.
The history of PMI’s brands in Poland began in 1973, when the company signed a licensing agreement with Zakłady Przemysłu Tytoniowego w Krakowie (ZPTK) to produce Marlboro. In 1996, PMI acquired shares of ZPTK from the State Treasury, and the company was renamed Philip Morris Polska S.A. in 1998.

We employ more than 3,000 people in the company’s factory and offices in Krakow, Warsaw, and in our distribution centers across the country. Over the past few years, we have invested over USD 700 million in the modernization of our manufacturing center and the development of our organization and employees. Because of this investment, we now have one of the most modern PMI factories in Europe.
In 2005, PMI Service Center Europe (PMI SCE) was established in Krakow, which provides specialized financial, human resources, information technology, and procurement services for PMI affiliates in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
It is of the utmost importance for us to act with integrity, social responsibility, and in compliance with all applicable rules and regulations.
Water is a shared and precious resource that is essential for life. In 2019 the World Economic Forum listed water scarcity, the lack of sufficient available water to meet usage demands, as the largest global risk of the 21st century. Water scarcity is triggered by water-related risks such as overexploitation, pollution, unsustainable management and changes in weather patterns due to climate change.
Since 2017, PMI has introduced amongst its main sustainability pillars the Alliance for Water Stewardship (or AWS) Certification in order to reduce the water footprint its factories and drive sustainable water management amongst local territories. In order to demonstrate its commitment to water stewardship, PMI plans to certify all facilities according to the AWS Standard by 2025.
Philip Morris Polska S.A. (PMPL) is pleased to publicly share their water stewardship journey and milestones achieved with the implementation of the AWS Standard and Outcomes. In December 2020, PMPL became the second site in Poland to be certified AWS and eleventh PMI facility worldwide. PMPL’s commitment and water stewardship journey continues and in the next years PMPL will be continuing to implement sustainable water practices and raise awareness in order to encourage others to become water stewards.
In accordance with the AWS standard in 2023 Philip Morris Polska is joining the process of re-certification of the standard. More information can be found in the “AWS Stakeholder Announcement”.
