We have a talented, culturally diverse workforce of around 70 people. We believe in being inclusive, flexible and transparent as an organization. This attitude allows our employees to bring our strategy to fruition.

A smoke-free future for Aotearoa New Zealand

As a company, we’re ready to give up cigarettes and transition to a smoke-free future as soon as possible.

More than half a million New Zealanders continue to smoke cigarettes, despite the known risks. Cigarette smoking is one of the leading preventable causes of death and illness in the world. It is dangerous and addictive. When someone lights a cigarette, the tobacco burns, creating smoke, and producing more than 6,000 harmful chemicals.

The best thing smokers can do is quit tobacco entirely. Many smokers, however, either do not want to quit or find it very difficult to quit, and continue to consume a dangerous product.

An approach to minimize the harm caused by cigarettes for smokers is the development of products, such as e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products, that do not produce any smoke (i.e., do not combust) and are an acceptable alternative to cigarettes.

In New Zealand, the government has declared a bold ambition to achieve a smoke-free society by 2025. The way to get New Zealand’s smoking rates to less than five percent as soon as possible is to ensure the regulation currently being developed by the government encourages smokers who would otherwise continue to use cigarettes to switch to smoke-free products that are a much better choice for them.

At Philip Morris New Zealand, our aim is to contribute to the government’s smoke-free 2025 goal by switching those who would otherwise continue to smoke to smoke-free alternatives. We believe smokers should be provided with the right information to allow them to make an informed decision to switch to smoke-free products.
