Our transformation goes beyond changing and optimizing our organization internally and into pioneering an important transformation that shapes the future of the industry not only for our employees and stakeholders but for the environment we operate in, too. For that reason, we are striving to integrate sustainability into everything we do, and we aim to become carbon-neutral in our direct operations by 2025.

We act in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, always aware of our economic, environmental, and social responsibility in all relevant areas.

Our efforts toward a carbon-neutral future have been recognized as the best project in the Carbon Management category at the Sustainable Business Awards of Sustainability Academy, which recognized and rewarded the leading projects providing guidance for change in 2021.

Our plans to become carbon neutral include building a wind power plant and a solar power plant to meet the majority of our electricity needs from renewable energy sources and achieving net zero in all direct and indirect emissions by 2040.

Using technology to improve our processes

Philip Morris Türkiye has one of the largest sales & distribution networks in Türkiye, with its distribution activities reaching approximately 150,000 licensed sales points in 81 provinces. Over the past years, we have eased the business processes of our near-140,000 retailers through digital trade platforms and the e-order system and contributed to their business with digital solutions. With this data-driven model, our company also undertakes the mission of preparing B2B traditional channel trade for the future. Our project, ATOM, which is the big data-based “Advanced Trade Operating Model,” developed with technologies such as artificial intelligence and image recognition, was awarded in the “Best Technology Use” category in the B2B field at the 2022 MarTech Awards.

Beyond our digital transformation, we are also undertaking important projects and achievements in reducing our carbon footprint, protecting our water, controlling our waste and recycling with our environmentally friendly and nature-conscious production approach.

We collaborate with tobacco suppliers to host training sessions every year on Good Agricultural Practices and working principles of tobacco farming for local farmers, a very important stakeholder in our value chain. We are also the first organization in Türkiye to receive the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) Certificate, issued to organizations that sustainably manage their use of water. We also support the Türkiye Zero Waste project, the studies of which have resulted in Philip Morris Türkiye making a significant contribution to the country’s circular economy by recycling 99.9% of its production waste.

Managing our supply chain sustainably is also amongst our priority topics pertaining to our operational impact, such as Ecosystem Capacity Sharing and Route Optimization Projects, where we reduce our total logistics footprint on the environment and shorten kilometer run by trucks and CO2 emission, respectively.
