Brand Censorship Blindfolds Consumers is Legally Questionable

(Lausanne, January 22nd, 2015): Julie Soderlund, PMI’s VP Communications today made the following statement regarding the UK’s announcement that the government intends to vote on legislation to censor brands:

"Real world experience shows that since the implementation of plain packaging the black market in Australia has expanded to record levels, pouring money into the pockets of criminals and leaving taxpayers with bills amounting to potentially billions. Government censorship of brands blindfolds consumers, is legally questionable, and distorts competition in free market economies."
