Read Sarah’s story:
I started my PMI career in Nigeria as People & Culture Manager. I was one of a team of five tasked with setting up the Nigerian organization, which would support our business expansion across Africa. As this was a new area for the business, our progress got a lot of attention.
After moving into talent acquisition, my focus turned to partnering with our direct sourcing team to attract and recruit local talent across the sub-Sahara region—people who could disrupt the existing market and make our commercial business a success.
Being born in the U.K., it was very exciting to work in Nigeria in a start-up environment. I trained in management consultancy and organizational change, so setting up the business meant dealing with some significant local challenges—just the opportunity I wanted. I had a young baby, too, so I had to find a nursery and settle him at the same time. There were many challenges, but I stayed focused.
I think it’s a great time to be part of PMI. We’re taking a massive leap into the new world of smoke-free products—it’s a great transition to be part of I get to write a new history for millions of smokers.
I’m passionate about supporting Africa. Working at PMI, I’ve been able to really make a difference here, providing jobs and stability to so many people and families and helping local communities to thrive.
I came back to London, but continued to help close the skills gaps in Africa. When the region was well established, I moved into another role, supporting recruitment teams worldwide. In talent acquisition, we’re building a workforce that wants to provide our customers with the best products, while also redefining our industry and supporting public health.
I think it’s a great time to be a part of PMI. We’re taking a massive leap into the new world of smoke-free products and, although it’s very challenging, I think it’s a great transition to be involved in.
There’s an emphasis on taking the lead and stretching yourself to achieve more. I have been here for more than four years now and can confidently say: If you want to take risks, use your initiative, and keep learning, there are so many opportunities here. This is a company that really does look out for its employees.
